GS Caltex has an annual production capacity of 2.8 million tons of aromatics(paraxylene, benzene, toluene, xylene) through continuous facility investment. Benzene
High-purity benzene supplied across the globe
Benzene, a planar molecule composed of six carbon atoms joined in a ring, is a colorless and highly flammable liquid with a sweet odor. GS Caltex annually produces 930,000 tons of high-purity benzene using its advanced processing technology, and supplies it worldwide as a raw material for various petrochemical products. We also practice strict management of benzene production, shipment and storage in order to protect the environment.
Applications
Benzene’s industrial applications include phenol(phenol resin), styrene monomer (electric/automotive parts) cyclohexane (nylon fibers), aniline (urethane resin), maleic anhydride (unsaturated polyester resin), alkyl benzene (synthetic detergent), pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides and organic pharmaceuticals.
Precautions for users
Benzene is a highly flammable and poisonous compound requiring the utmost care to prevent fire and leakage. Anyone who handles benzene must fully understand and observe the "Material Safety Data sheet (MSDS)” and wear appropriate protective gear. In wintertime, benzene must be stored at an appropriate temperature due to its unusually high freezing point.
