Petrochemicals made from petroleum or natural gas make up for the drawbacks of natural materials such as wood and rubber. They are used as the core materials in countless industries, from automobiles and electronics to construction and clothing.
GS Caltex is the world’s largest producer of aromatics as a single plant. Thanks to continued investments, we have competitive facilities and annual production capacity of 1.35 million tons for paraxylene alone, and 2.8 million tons for aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylene) as a whole.

Toluene
Providing a stable supply of toluene for industrial use
Toluene is a clear and colorless liquid consisting of a methyl group attached to a benzene ring. It is volatile and has a distinctive smell. GS Caltex produces 170,000 tons of toluene each year which is supplied to a wide range of industries.
Applications
Toluene is used mostly as a solvent for paint, in addition to adhesives, inks and pharmaceuticals. It is also a raw material for petrochemical products such as TDI (toluene di-isocyanate, synthetic fiber like polyurethane) and TNT (trinitrotoluene, explosives).
Precautions for users
Toluene is a highly flammable and toxic liquid requiring the utmost care to prevent fire and leakage. Anyone who handles toluene must fully understand and observe the "Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)" and wear appropriate protective gear.
